Activity Analysis
Every activity in Stride has a detailed analysis page that breaks down your performance data into charts, metrics, zones and route information. The page adapts to your sport type, showing power data for cycling, pace data for running and swimming, and heart rate data across all sports.
Key metrics#
At the top of every activity you will find your headline numbers, organised into columns covering time, distance, training load and intensity.
Universal metrics#
These appear on every activity regardless of sport:
- Training Score - the overall training stress from this session and how much it contributed to your Load and Fatigue.
- Intensity - how hard the session was relative to your threshold.
- Duration - both active (moving) time and total elapsed time.
- Distance - total distance covered.
- Elevation gain - total metres (or feet) climbed.
- Heart rate - average and max heart rate (when recorded).
Cycling-specific metrics#
- Average power, weighted power and max power - weighted power accounts for the variability of your effort and is used to calculate intensity and Training Score.
- Work (kJ) - total energy output in kilojoules.
- Work above CP and W' drop - how much anaerobic work you did above your critical power.
Running and swimming metrics#
Running activities show pace in min/km (or min/mi), while swimming activities show pace in seconds per 100m. Both use pace-based zone analysis instead of power zones.
Timeline#
The Timeline tab is the default view when you open an activity. It displays your data as a series of time-aligned graphs that you can scrub through together. The graphs that appear depend on what data your device recorded:
- Altitude - elevation profile of your route.
- Power - wattage over time (cycling with a power meter).
- W'bal - your remaining anaerobic capacity throughout the ride (cycling).
- Heart rate - beats per minute over time.
- Speed / Pace - displayed in sport-appropriate units.
- Cadence - pedalling or stride rate.
- Temperature and core body temperature - environmental and body temperature if recorded.
- Torque and left/right balance - pedalling dynamics (cycling with compatible sensors).
If your activity was linked to a planned workout, the workout intervals are also overlaid on the timeline so you can see how closely you followed the plan.
You can toggle which graphs are visible using the graph visibility selector, and highlight specific segments (laps, corners, climbs) across all graphs at once.
Power curves#
The Graphs tab shows your power curve for the activity, plotting your best average power at every duration from a few seconds to the full length of the ride. Key durations to look at:
- 5 seconds - sprint power and neuromuscular capacity.
- 1 minute - anaerobic capacity.
- 5 minutes - VO2 max power.
- 20 minutes - a strong indicator of your threshold.
- 60 minutes - true threshold power.
You can compare the activity's power curve against your historical bests over different timeframes: last 30 days, last 90 days, season best, or all-time best. Click any point on the comparison curve to see which activity produced that effort.
The Graphs tab also includes a heart rate curve, available for all sports with heart rate data, using the same comparison options.
Zones#
The Zones tab shows how much time you spent in each intensity zone during the activity. The zone type depends on your sport and what data is available:
- Power zones - based on your FTP (cycling).
- Heart rate zones - based on your max or threshold heart rate (all sports).
- Pace zones - based on your threshold pace (running and swimming).
Stride uses your threshold values at the time of the activity (not your current values) so zone calculations remain accurate even when looking back at older sessions. Each zone shows its range (e.g. 200w-250w) and the time and percentage spent there.
Matches (cycling)#
The Matches tab is available for cycling activities with power data. It analyses your anaerobic efforts (attacks, surges, hard accelerations) throughout the ride. For each match, Stride tracks the cost in kilojoules, how deeply you depleted your W' balance, and how long it took to recover.
The summary shows:
- Total number of matches and average cost per attack.
- Remaining anaerobic capacity and total anaerobic work (kJ and percentage of total work).
- Peak W' depletion and average recovery time between efforts.
- Matches categorised by intensity: light, moderate, heavy, severe and extreme.
This is particularly useful for criterium and road race analysis where repeated hard efforts determine the outcome.
Map and course#
The Course tab and the map panel on the right let you explore exactly where and how the activity unfolded. You can zoom into any part of the route and scrub along it while the timeline graphs update in sync.
The course details panel shows route-level information including total distance vs moving distance, time stopped and average gradient.
Segments#
The segments drawer at the bottom of the activity page gives you access to different ways of breaking down your route:
- Laps - device-recorded or auto-detected lap splits. Compare lap-by-lap metrics to spot pacing patterns and fatigue. The dedicated Laps tab shows a full breakdown for each lap.
- Corners - corner detection shows your speed, power, wind conditions and W' balance through each turn (cycling).
- Climbs and descents - automatically detected elevation changes with gradient and performance data.
Selecting any segment highlights it across all graphs and on the map, so you can immediately see how that section fits into the bigger picture.
Weather#
The Weather tab shows environmental conditions throughout the activity. For a deeper look at how Stride uses weather data, see the Weather article.
The weather graphs include:
- Wind direction - polar charts showing wind distribution at 45-degree and 20-degree bins.
- Wind speed - wind speed over the course of the activity.
- Precipitation - rainfall during the activity.
- Temperature - ambient temperature throughout.
Comments#
The Comments tab lets you and your coach or team members discuss the activity. Use it to leave notes about how the session felt, flag things to work on, or share feedback.
Tips#
- Click any metric in the header to edit it if you need to correct a value.
- Use the segment highlights to cross-reference specific parts of the route across all charts at once.
- Compare your power curve against different historical windows to track progress or spot fitness changes.
