Stride and Strava

Stride no longer connects to Strava. Strava changed its API terms to prohibit passing athlete data to AI, which rules out the way Stride works. Syncing ended on 1 September 2026.

What changed#

Strava's developer policy now forbids third-party applications from putting athlete training data in front of an AI, described in the policy as ingestion into a context window. Stride's insights, its planner and its chat all read your training data, so there is no version of Stride that both works as intended and stays within those terms. The one exception Strava allows is its own connector, offered to Strava subscribers, which is not something a third-party app can build on.

This is not specific to Stride. Every third-party training app that uses AI is in the same position, and most stopped offering new Strava connections well before the deadline.

What this means for you#

  • Strava no longer appears on the Integrations page, and existing connections have stopped syncing.
  • Anything that already came in through Strava stays in Stride. Nothing has been deleted, and your history is untouched.
  • Activity names and routes no longer flow between the two, and Strava segments can no longer be turned into courses.
  • Your Strava account is unaffected. Carry on posting, chasing segments and collecting kudos as before.

What to connect instead#

Connect the device or platform you actually record on. It is a better source than Strava was, because Strava strips detail out of the files it stores. See Connecting Your Devices for the full list.

  • Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, COROS and Polar for watches and bike computers
  • Zwift and Rouvy for indoor riding
  • Whoop and Oura for recovery and sleep

A direct connection gives Stride the original FIT file, so power, heart rate, cadence and GPS arrive intact, and it works in both directions: structured workouts are written back to the device on the day you are meant to do them. Most connections bring history with them, five years in Garmin's case.

Bringing your Strava history across#

Strava's own data export is separate from the API and still works. Request your archive from Strava, then upload the ZIP at Account > Import. Stride reads the FIT and TCX files inside it. Rides that Strava only holds as GPX carry no power or heart rate data, so those are skipped. Duplicates are handled for you, so it is safe to do this even if the same rides already synced from a device. Importing Your Data has the step-by-step.

Pro tip

If you only ever connected Strava, connect your watch or bike computer first and let it import, then upload a Strava archive for anything older than the connection reaches.
