The Stride API

Stride has a REST API for your own scripts and for developers building on Stride. If you only want to talk about your training in Claude or another AI assistant, you do not need it: see Connecting Stride to Claude (MCP).

Personal access tokens#

A personal access token lets your own scripts read and write your Stride data.

  1. On the web, go to Settings > API.
  2. Under Personal access tokens, choose New token.
  3. Give it a Name, choose its Access, then choose Create token.
  4. Copy the token straight away. It is only shown once.

Send it as a bearer token to https://api.stride.is/v1. The full reference is at stride.is/api. To stop a token working, revoke it on the same page. Treat a token like a password: anyone who has it can act as you, within the access you gave it.

Personal access tokens work with the REST API only. AI assistants connect through the MCP server instead, and sign in without a token.

Connected apps#

Connected apps lists every app and AI assistant you have given access to your account, and when each was last used. Choose Disconnect to remove one. It loses access within an hour.

Building an app for other athletes#

Turn on the switch beside Your apps, then choose New app to register one. A new app can connect up to 10 athletes until Stride approves it. The API documentation covers sign-in, permissions, limits and webhooks.

Good to know#

  • The API needs an active Stride trial or subscription.
  • Under Garmin's developer terms, data synced from Garmin Connect is not available through the API.
