Fitbit, Google Health and Health Connect
Stride does not connect to Fitbit or Google Health directly. If you use an Android phone, you can still bring your Fitbit sleep and recovery data into Stride through Health Connect, the place on Android where health apps share their data with each other.
The same route works for any app that writes to Health Connect, such as Samsung Health or a Pixel Watch.
What comes across#
- Sleep, including light, deep and REM stages where your device records them.
- Resting heart rate.
- HRV, when the app recording it shares HRV with Health Connect.
Stride uses these alongside your training to judge your recovery and readiness, and Stride AI takes them into account when it adapts your plan.
Setting it up#
- In the Fitbit or Google Health app, turn on sharing with Health Connect. You will find it in the app's settings under Health Connect. Allow it to write sleep, heart rate and HRV.
- In the Stride app on your Android phone, tap your avatar, open General Settings and switch on Sync Sleep & HRV.
- Allow the permissions Health Connect asks for. Stride only asks to read sleep, heart rate, resting heart rate and HRV, and never writes anything back.
Stride then imports the last 90 days straight away and keeps up to date in the background every couple of hours, so last night's sleep is usually there by the time you check your plan in the morning.
Health Connect not installed?
Health Connect is built into Android 14 and later. On older versions it is a separate app from Google Play. If Stride shows Set up instead of the switch, tap it and Stride will take you to install it.
Good to know#
- Activities do not come through Health Connect. Connect the device or platform you record on from Settings > Integrations on the web, or upload the FIT file.
- HRV depends on your device. Sleep and resting heart rate arrive from any app that shares them. HRV only arrives if the app recording it writes HRV to Health Connect.
- iPhone users: Health Connect is Android only. On iPhone, Stride reads sleep and HRV from Apple Health instead, but Fitbit does not write its data to Apple Health, so Fitbit sleep cannot reach Stride on an iPhone at the moment.
- To stop syncing, switch off Sync Sleep & HRV in Stride's General Settings, or remove Stride's access in Health Connect.
